Qualifications

  • BDS. Mar Baselios Dental College, Kothamangalam, Kerala University of Health Sciences, 2019.
  • MDS, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics. Royal Dental College, Chalissery, Kerala University of Health Sciences, 2026.

Registration and membership

  • Kerala Dental Council Reg. No. 28861. Registered 2021; valid to 31 December 2030.
  • Member, Indian Dental Association.

Registration with the Kerala Dental Council is what allows a dentist to practise in Kerala. You can check any dentist's number on the Council's register.

The Council register records the BDS against registration number 28861. The MDS in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics was awarded by the Kerala University of Health Sciences in 2026, and the entry of that additional qualification on the register is in progress. The degree certificate is held at the clinic and can be seen there.

What she treats

Orthodontics. These are the types of treatment Dr. Pavya plans and carries out. No case counts are given, because a number tells you nothing about your own case.

  • Braces: metal, ceramic and self-ligating.
  • Clear aligners.
  • Treatment with or without removing teeth to make room (extraction and non-extraction cases).
  • Teeth that have not come through and are stuck in the jaw, most often an upper canine (impacted canines).
  • Small temporary screws (temporary anchorage devices, TADs) that give a fixed point to move teeth against, so other teeth do not shift.
  • Fixed functional appliances for growing children and teenagers whose lower jaw sits back.
  • Growth guidance and habit correction in children (myofunctional and growth-modification treatment).
  • Orthodontics for adults.

General dentistry. Check-ups, cleaning, fillings, root canal treatment, removing teeth, crowns and dentures.

When to see an orthodontist

  • A child at about age seven, when the first adult molars and front teeth are in. Most children need nothing at that visit. Some need a short early treatment, and it is easier then.
  • A child or teenager whose teeth are crowded, whose upper teeth stick out, or whose lower jaw looks small.
  • An adult tooth that has not appeared by the expected age, especially an upper canine.
  • An adult of any age whose teeth are crowded, spaced, or do not meet properly, if the gums are healthy.
  • Anyone whose dentist has suggested braces or aligners.

You do not need a referral. Message the clinic and ask for a consultation with Dr. Pavya Priya.

A question people ask

What's the difference between a dentist and an orthodontist?

A dentist holds a BDS degree and treats teeth and gums: check-ups, fillings, root canals, removing teeth, crowns. An orthodontist is a dentist who then completed a three-year MDS in orthodontics. That is the branch that moves teeth and guides jaw growth with braces and aligners. Dr. Pavya Priya holds both. At Kallada Smile she does general dentistry and orthodontics.
